About this tool

Image to Text reads the words in a picture and turns them into text you can copy and edit. Use it for screenshots, photographed pages, receipts, signs and scanned letters. It supports English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi and more. Your files are processed on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to our servers.

Questions people ask

How accurate is the OCR?

Clean screenshots and printed text usually come out above 95% correct. Accuracy drops with blurry photos, tilted pages, small fonts, low contrast and handwriting. A sharp, straight, well-lit photo at full resolution gives the best result.

Can it read handwriting?

Only neat block capitals, and not reliably. The Tesseract engine used here is trained on printed fonts. Cursive and joined handwriting will produce many errors.

Why is the first run slower?

The first time you use a language, its trained data file (about 2 to 15 MB) is downloaded and cached by your browser. The image itself is processed on your device and is not uploaded.
