Questions people ask
Why do websites give me WebP files?
WebP is usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, so sites use it to load faster. Browsers show it fine, but some older software, printers and forms still only accept JPG or PNG.
Will the JPG be larger than the WebP?
Usually yes, by about a third at the same visual quality, because JPG compression is less efficient. Lower the quality slider if size matters.
What about transparent WebP images?
WebP can be transparent but JPG cannot. Transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose. Use WebP to PNG to keep transparency.
