About this tool

Find and Replace swaps every occurrence of a word or phrase in your text and tells you how many it changed. Turn on regular expressions for pattern matching, or whole words so “cat” does not change “category”.

How to use Find and Replace

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Type what to find and what to replace it with.
  3. Copy the result.

Questions people ask

How do I use capture groups?

Turn on “Regular expression”, wrap part of the pattern in brackets, and use $1, $2 in the replacement. For example, find (\w+)@(\w+) and replace with $2 at $1.

Is the search case sensitive?

Not by default, so “Fox” and “fox” both match. Tick “Match case” to match capital letters exactly.

How do I replace line breaks?

Turn on regular expressions and search for \n. Leave the replacement empty to delete them, or type a space to join the lines.
