Questions people ask

What are smart quotes?

Smart quotes are curly quotation marks (“ ” ‘ ’) added by word processors. Code, CSV files and many forms expect straight quotes (" and '), so the tool swaps them.

Which invisible characters are removed?

Zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners, word joiners, byte order marks and soft hyphens are deleted. Non-breaking and other special spaces become normal spaces.

Does stripping HTML keep line breaks?

Yes. Paragraphs, list items, headings and <br> tags become line breaks, so the text keeps its basic layout.
