Open Image ResizerFor a single file that needs an exact width or height, our pick is CozyToolz Image Resizer. It shows the source dimensions, lets you lock the aspect ratio, and saves a JPG, PNG, or WebP. Choose a full editor when the composition needs work and a command-line tool when the same rules need to run on many files.
Which tool fits the job?
| Option | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| CozyToolz Image Resizer | A quick export for a form, document, or web page | One image at a time. Crop separately if the destination requires a different shape. |
| Photopea | Resizing while editing layers, composition, or a design file | There are more controls because image size is one part of a full editor. |
| ImageMagick | Repeatable resizing from a terminal or an automated job | Decide how the command should handle crop, padding, and aspect ratio. |
Photopea’s image size guide distinguishes image dimensions from canvas dimensions. ImageMagick’s option reference explains resize geometry and related settings.
Fit, fill, or stretch?
Consider a 1,600 × 900 photo headed for a square 600 × 600 slot. If you fit it within that square, the entire image stays visible but takes up only about 600 × 338 pixels. The layout may add blank space. If you fill the square, you crop the sides and keep the proportions. If you stretch to 600 × 600, nothing is cut out but objects become distorted.
When the square crop matters, open Crop Image first and center the subject before resizing. If the receiver merely sets a maximum width, leave the aspect-ratio lock enabled and type the requested width. Check the calculated height against the requirements.
What to verify after resizing
Open the downloaded image, confirm its pixel dimensions, and inspect the edges of the subject. If you are reducing a screenshot, small labels might become unreadable even when the output is the exact size. If the portal also caps the byte size, adjust compression separately and confirm the final file in the file manager.
Start with CozyToolz for a one-off resize. Choose Photopea for composition changes or ImageMagick for an automated export. The photo upload guide walks through a case that has both a pixel limit and a byte limit.
