Best CSV to JSON converters for spreadsheets and automation

Compare CozyToolz, Papa Parse, and Python for one-off spreadsheet exports, browser apps, and repeatable imports.

Open CSV to JSON

Our pick for a one-off spreadsheet export is CozyToolz CSV to JSON. The form lets you choose a delimiter, decide whether the first row supplies the keys, and control whether numeric and boolean-looking values are converted. For an import that needs the same rules every week, choose a library and write those rules into the workflow.

Compare three approaches

Option Best fit What you control
CozyToolz CSV to JSON Converting a sample or an ordinary spreadsheet export by hand Delimiter, header handling, and whether values are converted to numbers and booleans.
Papa Parse Adding CSV imports to a JavaScript application Parsing options, error reporting, and worker or streaming workflows.
Python csv module Scheduled or repeatable conversions Dialect, encoding, row validation, and per-column conversion rules you define.

Papa Parse documents browser imports and parsing errors. Python’s csv module supports multiple dialects and provides a dictionary reader for header-based data.

Pick the types before you convert

A shipping export may contain an order reference with leading zeros, a quantity that should be a number, and a status that looks like a boolean. Converting every numeric-looking value can turn an identifier into a different value. Keeping every field as text preserves the identifier, but an API may still require a number for quantity. If a conversion needs mixed rules, a script can apply them to named columns instead of guessing.

Watch for CSVs that use semicolons, names that contain commas, and quoted text that spans two lines. Review the column names too. A duplicate header can obscure which value belongs in the final object. Test with real-looking records that cover those cases before handing over an entire export.

Choose a useful first test

Convert a small sample with one ordinary row, one ID with a leading zero, and a field that contains a quoted comma. Compare the output keys and values with the receiving system’s expected structure. If the source includes blank cells, decide whether those should stay empty, be left out, or become null.

CozyToolz is our first pick for checking the shape of a spreadsheet export and converting it once. Use a library when the import is recurring or needs field-specific validation. Start with our CSV conversion walkthrough to see how a quoted comma and a numeric-looking identifier behave.
