Questions people ask

How do you add fractions with different denominators?

Multiply across to get a common denominator: a/b + c/d = (a × d + c × b) ÷ (b × d). Then simplify. 1/2 + 3/4 = (4 + 6) ÷ 8 = 10/8 = 5/4 = 1 1/4.

How do you divide fractions?

Flip the second fraction and multiply: a/b ÷ c/d = (a × d) ÷ (b × c). So 2/3 ÷ 4/5 = 10/12 = 5/6.

How is a fraction simplified?

Divide the top and bottom by their greatest common divisor. For 18/24 the GCD is 6, giving 3/4.
