Questions people ask
What is the difference between mean, median and mode?
The mean is the sum divided by the count. The median is the middle value once sorted (the average of the two middle values for an even count). The mode is the value that appears most often. For 2, 3, 3, 8: mean 4, median 3, mode 3.
Should I use sample or population standard deviation?
Use population (divide by n) when your list is every value you care about. Use sample (divide by n − 1) when the list is a sample drawn from a larger group. Spreadsheet STDEV.S is sample and STDEV.P is population.
What separators can I use?
Commas, spaces, tabs, semicolons and new lines all work, so you can paste a spreadsheet column directly. Negative numbers, decimals and scientific notation such as 1.5e3 are read correctly.
