Questions people ask
What frequencies can people hear?
Roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The upper limit drops with age, and many adults cannot hear above 15,000–17,000 Hz.
What is the difference between the waveforms?
Sine is a pure tone with no harmonics. Square and sawtooth add strong harmonics and sound buzzy. Triangle sits in between.
Why is A4 set to 440 Hz?
440 Hz is the international standard tuning pitch for the A above middle C. Each semitone up multiplies the frequency by 2^(1/12), about 1.0595.
