About this tool

Tip Calculator works out the tip, the total bill and what each person pays when you split it. Choose a preset tip or type your own percentage, and round each share up to make paying in cash easier.

How to use Tip Calculator

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Pick a tip percentage and number of people.
  3. Read the tip, total and each share.

Questions people ask

How is the tip calculated?

Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Each share = total ÷ people. A 60 bill with a 15% tip is 9 in tip, 69 in total, or 34.50 each for two people.

How much should I tip?

It varies by country. In the US, 15% to 20% at sit-down restaurants is usual. In much of Europe and Asia service is often included or a small round-up is enough. In Japan tipping is generally not expected.

Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?

Etiquette guides usually suggest tipping on the pre-tax amount. Enter the bill before tax if you prefer that, then add the tax to the total yourself.
